Personal loan interest rates rise for 3- and 5-year fixed-rate loans

Borrowers with good credit seeking personal loans during the past seven days prequalified for rates that were higher for both 3- and 5-year fixed-rate loans compared to the previous seven days.

For borrowers with credit scores of 720 or higher who used the Credible marketplace to select a lender between Dec. 8 and Dec. 14:

• Rates on 3-year fixed-rate loans averaged 12.93%, up from 12.84% the previous seven days and up from 11.21% a year ago.
• Rates on 5-year fixed-rate loans averaged 17.50%, up from 16.00% the previous seven days and up from 14.42% a year ago.

In addition to this week’s rate increases, interest rates for both loan terms are higher than they were this time last year. The chart above shows average prequalified rates for borrowers with credit scores of 720 or higher who used the Credible marketplace to select a lender. 

For the month of November 2022:

• Rates on 3-year personal loans averaged 12.78%, up from 12.37% in October.
• Rates on 5-year personal loans averaged 15.81%, down from 15.84% in October.
