Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner has not yet decided on when or if she will return to the WNBA following her release from a Russian prison last week.
Griner’s agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas, told ESPN that the 32-year-old, six-time WNBA All-Star, had her first workout with a basketball in almost 10 months on Sunday.
“If she wants to play, it will be for her to share. She has the holidays to rest and decide what’s next without any pressure,” Colas said. “She’s doing really, really well. She seems to have endured this in pretty incredible ways.”
She added that Griner will likely issue a public statement “this week.”
Giner and her wife, Cherelle Griner, have been living at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, since her return from Russia and have no immediate plans to leave, according to ESPN.
“There’s no timeline on her return at this point. She’s reintegrating into a world that has changed for her now,” Colas added. “From a pure security standpoint she’s not going to be able to move in the world the way she did. It’s not a fate that she asked for, but I think she’s going to try to utilize her fame for good.”
