AMAC Supports HSA Expansion for Direct Primary Care

This legislation cuts the prohibitive red tape in the U.S. tax code to allow Americans to apply their hard-earned, tax-free cash through their own Health Savings Account (HSA) to cover the monthly payment made to their choice of Direct Primary Care (DPC) practices.

Dear Representative Smucker and Senator Cassidy,

On behalf of the 2.1 million members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 7,900 members in PA-11, and over 29,400 members in Louisiana, I am pleased to convey our support for H.R. 3029, and its companion bill, S. 628 together, the “Primary Care Enhancement Act of 2023.”

Traditional medical insurance programs hamstring good doctors into defensive medicine, forcing them to follow pathways dictated by non-medical interests instead of being able to prioritize what works best for the patient. Direct Primary Care (DPC) practices offer another choice for care, one that empowers patients and affords them more control over their healthcare and allows for the growth of the free market economy in medicine.

Choice is the resounding echo of liberty. The right to choose our own healthcare journey is a critical
component of our right to life and pursuit of happiness. For too long, Americans with medical needs who wish to answer them using DPC have had their choice curtailed by the restrictions on Health Saving Accounts (HSAs) as a payment option. And why? Nearly every other expense that is healthcare related is a valid expense in the eyes of the IRS.

Your legislation cuts the prohibitive red tape in the U.S. tax code to allow Americans to apply their hard-earned, tax-free cash through their own HSA to cover the monthly payment made to their choice of DPC practices. This is a long overdue healthy dose of the free market injected into medical care.
